Flash Live presents RZA: LIVE FROM THE 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN on 4/20 week at DC’s premier stage, The Warner Theatre.

During the screening of the film, two-time Grammy nominated artist, producer, film director, and leader of the Wu-Tang Clan, RZA, will be performing his own live score from a collection of over one hundred instrumental tracks, beats, and effects. The result is an impressive audio-visual experience transcending cultures, genres, and eras.

Rescoring the entire film during a live screening, each audio file is individually crafted and carefully placed to amplify the narrative, electrifying the action of Kar-leung's enduring classic into a modern day orchestral wonder.

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin is masterpiece of the famed director and choreographer Lau Kar-leung. One of the greatest martial-arts film of all time, the film portrays the timeless struggle between the oppressed and a repressive authority.

RZA first saw the film when he was 12 years old, and it quickly became the foundation of what Rolling Stone later called "the best rap group ever". "Beyond the kung-fu, it was the reality of the situation that hit me. Growing up as a black kid in America, I didn't know that that kind of story existed anywhere else”, recalls RZA. Inspired to create a wildly complex mythology, RZA transformed his immediate urban surroundings of Staten Island into Shaolin and his cousins and childhood friends into the Wu-Tang Clan.

An American rapper, producer, director and actor who revolutionized hip hop in the 90s as the leader of the Wu-Tang Clan, RZA has garnered significant recognition around the world. His work on films includes production of the original soundtrack for Quentin Tarantino’s film Kill Bill Vol.1, original score for Ghost Dog:The Way of The Samurai directed by Jim Jarmusch, and with acting in numerous films and shows including American Gangster and Californication.
