Flash is proud to welcome DJ Hyperactive and Truncate for a techno filled night in the District. After honing his skills in the early 90s, DJ Hyperactive has been a force of the underground ever since, playing some of the most important clubs and festivals in the scene. He is truly one of our finest exports playing the likes of Smart Bar (Chicago), Interface (Los Angeles), Movement (Detroit), Output (Brooklyn), Tresor (Berlin), and the legendary Berghain (Berlin). The 4 Track Recordings boss has an impressive and expansive discography including over 100 originals and remixes. The Chicago based DJ and producer will be joined by LA native Truncate. Formerly known as Audio Injection, the DJ and Producer launched his Truncate alias in 2011 to explore the deeper side of techno. In the last decade, Truncate has received support from major names in the world of techno such as Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, and Joris Voorn among others. This has led him to be featured on the most important dance floors including Fabric (London), Concrete (Paris), Womb (Tokyo), the late Output (Brooklyn), Dimensions Festival (Croatia), and Awakenings (Amsterdam). Join us as Flash welcomes some of our biggest ambassadors for a night full of techno in DC.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS: 

DJ Hyperactive:

Chicago born and bred DJ, Producer Joseph Manumaleuna aka DJ Hyperactive needs little introduction to those versed in the history of techno.  As one of Daft Punk’s “Teachers” and “brother of the humble” according to Resident Adviser, his contributions to the underground continue to span generations.  Honing his skills in the highly influential scene and sound of Chicago in the early 90s, DJ Hyperactive gained instant international recognition and has since gone on to play the most legendary and lauded events and venues over the last 20 years, such as Orbit/ Leeds, Liquid Room/ Tokyo, Love Parade/ Berlin, Shelter, Smart Bar, Primary/ Chicago, Interface/ Los Angeles, Movement/ Detroit, Output/ Brooklyn, Tresor/ Berlin, Berghain/ Berlin and the list doesn’t stop there.  Also over the course of his career, he has produced over 100 remixes and original tracks, including classics such as ‘Venus’ & ‘Wide Open’ - Missile, ‘25HRs’ - Droid Recordings, “Music Box’ on his own imprint 4 Track Recordings, ‘Chicago’ - Contact, Truncate, Figure, Blank Code, Impact Mechanics, Nachstrom Schallplatten, CLR, to name a few.  DJ Hyperactive returned to Chicago 2013 to reconnect with his family and musical roots.  His story continues with more gigs and more studio productions, with the difference being the experience and perspective that only a true veteran can possess.

Truncate:

After being introduced to electronic music back in the early 90's in Los Angeles, a teenage David Flores was hooked. He started DJing across Southern California on the DIY warehouses, desert, and rave circuit. His style then was as varied as the local scene - a myriad of sounds ranging from house to acid to techno to hardcore. After a few years solely DJing, he began releasing original music under the moniker Audio Injection, which landed on labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track & LA label Droid Recordings. His association with Droid Behavior began in 2003 and continues today as resident at the infamous and internationally acclaimed Interface event series alongside Drumcell and Raiz.

In early 2011, he started the project 'Truncate' to focus on the deeper, raw side of techno. His Truncate releases have been gain critical acclaim from world class underground talent such as Modeselektor, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, East Everything, Jooris Voorn, and many more. Since then, he has provided remixes for artists across the musical spectrum including Kink! for Pets Recordings, Slam for Soma, and Trus’me for Prime Numbers. He has also released original tracks on 50 Weapons and on Ultramajic as a collaboration with Jimmy Edgar.
