Berghain/Panorama Bar resident Ryan Elliott returns to Flash for FOCUS. Raised with motor city roots in the burgeoning techno capital of Detroit, Elliott took his sound to Berlin, where he has called home for many years. Given this unique musical heritage and process, Ryan Elliott embodies a dichotomy of both worlds, not only in house techno but also in culture. His ethos is borne of an all encompassing love for house and techno, and desire to give back to the musical community. He recently released his own label Faith Beat and described the meaning behind the imprint's name: "'Faith' is defined as 'complete trust or confidence in someone or something.' That something for me is and has always been music. It completely changed the course of my life and took me to places I never thought I would go. I chose the name Faith Beat to honor the way music unites us and brings us closer to each other." Ryan Elliott’s sets bring a fresh perspective to house and techno which is undefinable and unpredictable, just as he is as an artist, lending to Flash’s curation of unique and diverse talents.

Joining him on the decks on warming duties is DC’s own techno powerhouse label head, Jackson Ryland, of Rush Plus. Ryland has been a consistent mainstay warming up the decks at U Street Music Hall and Flash for countless national and international headliners.

In the Green Room we have Brooklyn based/Houston transplant DJ and producer Henry Chow curating a collaborative performance of his Crossroads imprint, along with labelmate Noey Lopez and Brooklyn’s Outer Orbits label head Samuel Fish. At Flash Bar, local DC favorites Peter Kaufman and Taiga play all night long.

RYAN ELLIOTT:

Ryan Elliott has spent the past two decades of his esteemed career effortlessly bridging the gap between different artistic expectations. Growing up as a DJ in Detroit, but coming into his own in Berlin, his sets expand on each city’s styles. A resident at Berghain and Panorama Bar, he refuses to be aligned with just techno or house, instead highlighting their optimal overlaps. And as a producer, remixer, and founder of his own label, Faith Beat, Elliott releases music that is playable but unpredictable, perfectly calibrated for dancefloor impact and enduring enjoyment. No matter what form his musical expression takes, with Elliott listeners always seem to get
the best of both worlds.

As a DJ, Elliott delivers sets that slice energetically across the house and techno divide, a revelatory approach that's infused with a deep respect for his selections. This ethos also manifests in the monthly charts Elliott has published since 2003, insisting on giving a proper platform to whatever he plays. As with all of his efforts, Elliott doesn’t pit one place or style against each other, continuing to pursue a sleek and transportive fusion.

JACKSON RYLAND:

Rush Plus is the combination of friends and collaborators, Jackson Ryland & Jus Nowhere with a slant toward experimental, driving techno. Individually, Justin Nouhra (Jus Nowhere) and Jackson Ryland have played in DC at the usual spots (U Street Music Hall, Flash) for several years, opening together for Alex Niggemann, George Fitzgerald and DVS1. Past 12" releases saw a house-influenced approach to production; their Rush Plus collaboration project sees a fresh take for both in techno. Influences stem from a minimal, heavy and cerebral side of techno, from the likes of Shed, Truncate, and Ben Sims. 2016 will see the first 12" self-releases from the project. The duo has gained support from heavyweights DVS1, Exos, Bambounou, LPZ, Lo Shea, Len Faki, Ben Klock and Daniel Avery to name a few.

HENRY CHOW:

The Texas born and raised, now Brooklyn based, Henry Chow's musical journey has long-lasted over the span of 24 years. An avid vinyl collector, Chow pushes timeless House and Techno to the forefront. His taste as talent buyer, curator, promoter under the Crossroads brand hosted one of Texas’ longest running dance parties, bringing to town some of the best talent from around the world. Chow’s experience as a DJ has also earned him international gigs and many across the US at venues such as The End Up (SF), Good Room (NY), Flash (DC), to name a few. Production wise, Chow landed his first EP on Marco Carola’s seminal Zenit imprint back in 2003. Along the way came original music and remixes released on labels such as Thoughtless Music, Harmonious Discord, G-Force, and Abiotic. Constantly reuniting new and classic sounds, Henry’s music keep dance floors captivated and moved all night long.

NOEY LOPEZ:

Noey Lopez has been a fixture in the Houston underground House & Techno scene for 15+ years as a House Dancer and DJ.  Joining forces with the Crossroads collective, he along with Henry Chow & Sasha Braverman ran one of Texas's longest running monthly parties called Rekliner,  which brought some of the world's finest artists for 10 years strong.  His music and dance experience has landed him gigs in London, Toronto, Montreal, NYC, Chicago, Detroit and many others.  Noey has released two EP's on Catch The Ghost Records and two compilations with his collective Sure Shot on Slowly Losing It Records with much more music in the pipeline.

SAMUEL FISH:

Samuel Fish is the mind behind Outer Orbit, an outward-bound event series focusing on deeper sounds from the house and techno spectrum leaning into disco and dub. They have previously hosted Convextion, DJ Qu, Tim Sweeney, Brother Nebula, Taimur, and numerous of New York's more esoteric locals. He also hosts Out of Orbit, a monthly radio show on San Francisco’s SutroFM.
